Not much. Wasabi with you?

Note to self: must go to NYC immediately. The MOMA store is featuring a product collection from Japanese designers ("Destination Japan") and it totally rocks the house. What? I can shop online? Bliss.

Paper or Plastic? Or Ceramic?

In between family fun for Memorial Day, the worst sunburn
of my whole entire life, and the season finale of Lost, these cuties caught my eye.
Ceramic vases fashioned to look like paper bags. Genius.
$35-$70 right here.

Messy Mandy Website

A few months back, I blogged about the identity work I did for Messy Mandy. Once we had that hammered out, we put together a simple website to match her branding. So visit now and if you're in the Chicago area, give her a call.
And if you are in need of graphic design services for your business, let me know! You can email me at info@kellyashworthdesign.com to get the ball rolling.

The Zonies

Last night I attended The Zonie Awards as a guest of Victoria Canada Weddings & Events. The Zonies sound kind of like "The Dundies", but it's actually much MUCH cooler. And it took place at The Venue of Scottsdale, not a Chili's.
The Zonies were awarded to Event Industry Professionals for achievements in Event Planning, Production and the like. It was fun to see all of the fabulous events that had been produced in the past year. Even more fun to see Victoria win in two categories,  "Best Multi-Day Event" and "Best Social Event-Budget over $25,000"!
Congrats to Victoria and her team, and thanks for having me along for the ride!

LIVESTRONG Day

Today is LIVESTRONG Day, the Lance Armstrong Foundation's one-day initiative to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer.

I can't think of one person who has not been in some way affected by cancer, and I am grateful there is someone like Lance Armstrong out there to get us motivated to do something about it.

Check out the website for more information.

And if that's not enough to get you motivated to give, check out this commerical. It's a Nike spot from Lance's riding days, and one of my all time favorite ads. I choke up everytime I see Lance do the fist pump to the kids in the hospital.

Shannon + Cody

Shannon and Cody, also knows as "Shanody" (their celebrity nickname) were married in April at The Royal Palms. This magnificent affair was coordinated by Victoria Canada Weddings & Events, with floral provided by The Flower Studio.
They went for an ultra chic black and white color scheme with subtle pops of purple an fuchsia.
And boy did they pull out all the stops for this wedding! From a photo booth to a cigar roller, they really went the extra mile to make this wedding a blast for their lucky guests.
Check out some of the highlights below. Photos provided by the amazing David de Dios.

Just make sure her head doesn't leak...

Martha thinks we should all make our mom's some homemade granola for Mother's Day. Do you know what my mom would do if I sent her homemade granola? She'd say, "Granola? Really?" And then she'd launch it out the window like a torpedo and let the birds feast away.
I think Mother's Day is the perfect opportunity to get your mom a gift that she never knew she needed. Which is why this M's Day, I'm presenting my mom with this...
$59 plus shipping right here.
It's fabulous, it's something she absolutely does not need and it's too heavy to chuck out a window.
Happy Mother's Day, mama!
Love,
kelly

Lukewarm Celeb Wedding Trends

OK, I'll admit, I want to completely recreate the herb garden display as my kitchen table centerpiece. And I did swoon over the candlesticks.

But grooms cakes as a "big hot celebrity trend"? Um, welcome to five years ago. (They were pretty cool cakes though, I'll give them that.)
And while I agree with what she's saying about favors (if you can't come up with something clever, JUST DON'T DO THEM) if I see another French Macaroon, I might keel over. (Who is in charge of marketing at the French Macaroon company? Will you be my summer intern? I want to appear in every magazine, blog, morning news show segment about entertaining/weddings/etc. too.)
And that's just about enough sarcasm (and parentheses) for me.

Kristen & Tracey

Kristen and Tracey were married in April at the beautiful Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix.
I first met with Kristen awhile back to design their save the date cards.
One thing became glaringly apparent when I first met with Kristen. This girl was not afraid of color. When I asked her what colors she was using in her wedding palate, she more or less responded "all of them." What a breath of fresh air! I appreciate a neutral palate as much as the next gal, but if you're getting married at a Botanical Garden, it's OK to break away from a champagne/ivory/beige color scheme.

Other vendors who contributed to this event:
• Wedding Planning and Coordination, In Awe Weddings
• Floral, The Flower Studio
• Linens, Wildflower Linens
Kristen, Tracey and their adorable pup, Flannigan.

3-Panel Invitation with a custom pocket to hold a map, reply card and rehearsal dinner invite.
Ceremony program which included photos of Kristen and Tracey as kids.
The DBG is kind of maze-like. So we made directional signs to let people know they were in the right place.
Freaking fabulous table settings and floral display.

More Big News!

I have been wanting to find a good resource for silk boxes and envelopes for awhile now, and with the help of the ever talented Victoria Canada, found one!
You should see these babies in person, words cannot describe their coolness. I have a spectacular sample kit for anyone who is interested in incorporating a silk envelope, folio or box in their stationery design. And tons of gorgeous colors to choose from!
